Who is Qualified to Practice Massage Therapy?

Registered Massage Therapists (RMT's) have successfully completed an intensive 2,200 hour diploma program at a government approved massage therapy college.  RMT's are licensed by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).  They receive a registration number after successfully completing a provincial board examination.  RMT's are governed by both the Massage Therapy Act, and the Regulated Health Profession Act (RHPA).  In order to renew their license each year, RMT's must maintain a level of  Continuing Education that meets the requirements of the CMTO Quality Assurance Program, as with all Health Care Professionals.

The RHPA is the Act that governs doctors, nurses, massage therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other licensed health care professionals.

Massage Therapy is a regulated health profession, and as such you are encouraged to look for proof that your therapist is licensed by the CMTO.
